Terbinafine is an allylamine belonging to a group of antifungal agents.

It is an antifungal against dermatophytes, molds, and some dimorphic fungi.

Terbinafine acts either as a fungicide or fungistatic depending on the type.

Terbinafine interferes with fungal ergosterol synthesis by inhibiting squalene epoxidase in the fungal cell membrane at an early stage.

This leads to a deficiency of ergosterol and accumulation of squalene inside the cells, resulting in fungal cell death.

Terbinafine is highly effective in fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails caused by Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp., and Epidermophyton.

It is also effective against cutaneous yeast infections, especially those caused by the genus Candida.

Topical terbinafine appears effective in pityriasis versicolor caused by Pityrosporum orbiculare.

Usage Instructions:

Terbinafine tablets are necessary for hair or nail infections:

Usual oral dose:

Terbinafine 250 mg daily for 2 to 12 weeks depending on the infection.

Fungal nail infection (onychomycosis):

Terbinafine 250 mg once daily for 6 weeks.

Fungal nail infection (onychomycosis):

Terbinafine 250 mg once daily for 12 weeks.
