Xifaxan contains the active ingredient rifaximin alfa.
Rifaximin is an effective gastrointestinal antibiotic used to treat irritable bowel syndrome with prevalent diarrhea, traveler's diarrhea in adults, and hepatic encephalopathy.
Instructions for use:
Always be sure to use Xifaxan exactly as your doctor has told you.
You can take Xifaxan with or without food. Take the tablets with a glass of water.
If you forget to take a dose at the right time, take the missed dose as soon as you remember and take the next dose at your usual time.
Warnings and precautions:
If you are using activated charcoal, take Xifaxan at least 2 hours after taking charcoal.
Do not interrupt the prescribed treatment period on your own.
Consult your doctor before taking Xifaxan, if you have a bowel obstruction, or if you have diarrhea accompanied by fever or blood in the stool.
