Fluvoxamine maleate 100 mg tablets

Fluvoxamine maleate is an antidepressant medicine used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Do not take fluvoxamine maleate:

If you are allergic to the active ingredients or any other components of this medicine.

If you have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors in the past two weeks.

If you are taking any of the following drugs: pimozide, thioridazine, alosetron, or tizanidine.

Warnings and precautions:

Inform your doctor about all your health conditions, including if you have:

Liver or kidney problems.

Heart problems including prolonged QT interval.

Seizures or epilepsy.

Bipolar disorder or mania.

Low sodium levels in the blood.

A history of stroke.

High blood pressure.

Current or past bleeding problems.

This medicine may cause suicidal thoughts, especially in young people, during the first months of treatment.

Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms.

Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly.

You may experience side effects.

Talk to your doctor about how to stop taking fluvoxamine maleate.

Possible side effects:

Stop using this product and seek immediate medical care if you develop a rash; itching; red, blistered, or peeling skin; tightness in the chest or throat; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. The frequency of these side effects is unknown.

Serious side effects:

Suicidal thoughts or actions, especially at the start of treatment.

Serotonin syndrome: a serious, sometimes fatal condition with imbalance, confusion, hallucinations, rapid or irregular heartbeat, seizures and tremors, excessive sweating, or convulsions.

Allergic reactions.

Seizures and epilepsy.

Heart problems: irregular heartbeat.

Low sodium levels in the blood.

Abnormal bleeding including stomach bleeding.

Other medicines and fluvoxamine maleate:

Inform your doctor about all the medicines you are taking.

Do not take monoamine oxidase inhibitors within two weeks before or after stopping fluvoxamine maleate.

Do not take thioridazine within two weeks after stopping fluvoxamine maleate.

Do not take fluvoxamine maleate with pimozide, alosetron, or tizanidine.

Fluvoxamine maleate interacts with triptan medicines, antidepressants or anti-anxiety medicines, tramadol, benzodiazepines, methadone, clozapine, mexiletine, theophylline, blood thinners like warfarin, diuretics for high blood pressure, tryptophan, and St. John's wort.

How to take fluvoxamine maleate:

This medicine is intended for adults and children aged 8 years and older.

Take this medicine as directed by your doctor.

Adults: The recommended starting dose is 50 mg once daily before bedtime. Your doctor will gradually increase the dose for you.

The usual dose ranges between 100 - 300 mg daily.

Children aged 8 to 17 years: The recommended starting dose is 25 mg once daily before bedtime.

The usual dose ranges between 50 - 200 mg daily.

How to store fluvoxamine maleate:

Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 25 degrees Celsius).

Keep this medicine out of reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiration date printed on the package.
